A 12-hour bandh commenced in Islampur, West Bengal, in protest against the killing of BJP leader Asima Saha. Saha was stabbed to death on Saturday for allegedly refusing to pay extortion money.
In response, BJP workers and supporters blocked National Highway No. 31, demanding the immediate arrest of the killers. Saha, the president of the BJP Municipal Board in Islampur, lived in his uncle's house and managed his clothes shop in the local Bijhti area.
The incident has sparked outrage and tension in the region.
